We are on the isle of Aaran

It's been miserable here for days. Light rain fails constantly. It makes going to sites difficult and very tiring. Let's hope that tomorrow is brighter. This weather reminds me of Ray Bradberry's short story, All Summer in One Day. This is summer for the locals. One day of sunshine could be the sum of it, you never know.

Some expressions that we have picked up are "that's lovely." It's often said as a thank you. Tatties are potatoes, ah-loo-men-knee-um is tin foil, ham is called bacon, and Urquhart Castle is pronounced Ur' kert..
Chappies are men, we were told today that we were wearing the proper kit to be out in the rain (referring to our wellies and macs -rain jackets).

We went through a forest today that must have been the model for Fangorn, from the Hobbit. I will attach a picture but it will not show how dark, mysterious and moldy green it was.

Dinner tonight

We are back on Skye and had a first-rate dinner tonight at the Cuillin Hills Hotel. It is high, on a hill overlooking the habor. The view is gorgeous. Notice the pastel-colored buildings ringing the waterfront. I hope the pictures are clear enough for you to see them.

It's 10:29 on July 4th

It is 10:29 pm and the sun is just setting. The sky is so beautiful tonight. As you can see, the old and new live side by side here.

Last meal on Harris

We got to the little ferry at Leverburgh, south Harris, waiting to go to North Uist, very early. We found this little restaurant right by the lineup. Great hand dived local scallops.

Happy 4th, everyone!

Correction

Tomorrow we will be on Lewis/Harris (Harris tweed anyone?) then go to the island of Uist. Duh, of course everyone knows those place names (Uist, never heard of it before).
